This is the whole kingdom in one journey — the trip for travellers who want to see all of Morocco and feel it, not tick it off. Privately, over fourteen unhurried days, you cross the High Atlas to the great gorges and knot your own Berber rug with a women's co-op; ride a camel into the dunes of Merzouga and sleep two nights deep in the Sahara; rise through the Ziz palmeries and cedar forests to Fes, where you paint your own Fes-blue ceramic; lose yourself in the blue lanes of Chefchaouen and weave your own wool; then follow the coast through Tangier, Asilah, Rabat and Casablanca's great mosque before the circle closes in Marrakech. Sahara and sea; Berber, Roman and imperial; three things you make and keep — and every workshop puts money straight into a small artisan family. The masterpiece.
